Taj Mahotsav Festivals Agra

Agra is mostly famous for two things, “Agra ka petha” a sweet translucent soft candy and the majestic eternal beauty called “Taj Mahal -”. And to praise this monument of love, an event called “Taj Mahotsav (Taj Jubilee)” is held annually at Shilpgram in February by the state government of Uttar Pradesh. It’s a 10 day event which starts from 18th of February and lasts till 27th of February. It is a great time to have a holiday tour to Agra.

The Taj Mahotsav festival allows craftsman and artists from all over India to showcase the exquisite works of art. Wood/stone carvings, Paper mash work, Bamboo/cane work, marble and zardozi work, brass wares, hand made shawls & carpets, Pottery, Chikan work, silk & zari work, hand printing and Kantha stitch work are some of the name of craftsmanship that are displayed in this festival. This festival also brings back the memories of the 18th and 19th century’s old Nawabi style and Mughal era.

The festival begins like a grand victory procession with decorated elephants and camels, drum beaters, trumpet players and folk dancers. Various classical & folk dancers and singers also add excellence to this festival. Tourists and travelers from all over India and around the world visit this festival to experience this grand event.

The Taj Mahotsav festival is celebrated with a theme or a message every year. The theme can be related to any present world situation or from great historical importance. The tourism in Agra is always at a high during every time of the year but it gets a great boom during this festival as both the domestic and international tourists come to visit the Taj Mahotsav festival.
