Golden Triangle Tour- The culture of India

The city was the cultural capital of Chandela Rajputs, a Hindu dynasty that ruled this part of India from the 10-12th centuries. The political capital of the Chandelas was Kalinjar. The Khajuraho temples were built over a span of 200 years, from 950 to 1150. The Chandela capital was moved to Mahoba after this time, but Khajuraho continued to flourish for some time.Khajuraho has no forts because the Chandel Kings never lived in their cultural capital.

The whole area was enclosed by a wall with eight gates, each flanked by two golden palm trees. There were originally over 80 Hindu temples, of which only 25 now stand in a reasonable state of preservation, scattered over an area of about 20 square kilometres (8 sq mi).

Today, the temples serve as fine examples of Indian architectural styles that have gained popularity due to their explicit depiction of sexual life during medieval times. Locals living in the Khajuraho village always knew about and kept up the temples as best as they could. They were pointed out to an Englishman in late 19th century but the jungles had taken a toll on all the monuments.

India Tour Packages - Enjoy the Imagine Wildlife Tours

Bharatpur  Bird Sanctuary one of the finest bird parks in the world, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo Ghana National Park) is a reserve that offers protection to faunal species as well. Nesting indigenous water- birds as well as migratory water birds and waterside birds, this sanctuary is also inhabited by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.

In Bharatpur more than 300 species of birds are found in this small wildlife park of 29-sq-kms of which 11-sq-kms are marshes and the rest scrubland and grassland. Keoladeo, the name derives from an ancient Hindu temple, devoted to Lord Shiva, which stands at the centre of the park. 'Ghana' means dense, referring to the thick forest, which used to cover the area.

While many of India's parks have been developed from the hunting preserves of princely India, Keoladeo, popularly known as Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary, is perhaps the only case where the habitat has been created by a maharaja. In earlier times, Bharatpur town used to be flooded regularly every monsoon. In 1760, an earthen dam (Ajan Dam) was constructed, to save the town, from this annual vagary of nature. The depression created by extraction of soil for the dam was cleared and this became the Bharatpur Lake.

Khajuraho would serve as the central angle of your golden triangle tour. Khajuraho is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Khajuraho temples; especially the Eastern and Western group of temples are recognized for their architectural beauty. These temples are more preferred in compliance to the North Indian structural design due to gallant creative statement of lovely postures in their sculptures and the different refinements of courteous love with dance and music in a sanctified place like a temple. The Temples of Khajuraho are a well example of religion blended with the love and the tourist to Khajuraho are not able to get attract to the dramatic erotic sculptures made on the temple walls. These extremely sensual and erotic sculptures of the temples have a symbolic importance and it is believed that all these engravings have different meanings.

The ultimate destinations in the golden triangle tour would be the ‘pink city’ of India, Jaipur. Located in Rajasthan, Jaipur is a significant destination of golden Triangle Tour. Here you can visit the famous Hawa Mahal, the City Palace consisting of number of palaces and havelis and the Jantar Mantar apart from other heritage sites. The most fascinating thing to be done in Jaipur is to experience a elephant ride to visit the Amber Fort.
